Shipping Container Artist Retreat

Cove Park is a cluster of buildings that can be used as retreats by artists of all media. It is located on the west coast of Scotland and was built out of recycled shipping containers. The complex stretches over 50 acres of beautiful, natural terrain, and all the shipping container units with a layer of grass to provide insulation and make them seem as one with the surrounding countryside.

A Shipping Container Guest House That’s a Piece of Art

This cool, and vividly colored guesthouse was designed by Studio ArTe. It is located in the Algarve region in Portugal and was built out of a single, repurposed shipping container. The owners of a nearby home commissioned architect Arnold Aarssen to build an affordable guesthouse on their property. He opted to use a shipping container to construct it, in order to keep the costs down while still offering a comfortable living quarters.

Tiny Homes for the Homeless Made of Salvaged and Recycled Materials

Artist Gregory Kloehn has been quietly addressing the problem of homelessness in Oakland by building a number of unique, tiny homes for the homeless using repurposed and salvaged materials. This initiative is called the Homeless Homes Project and through it, Gregory has already provided several homes for the area’s homeless. To build the homes, he uses primarily illegally dumped garbage and industrial waste solving several problems at once.

The Canadian firm Ecopods makes sustainable, fully recycled short term container dwellings. Ecopods are an excellent choice as cabins, guesthouses or other accessory buildings, or showrooms. All ecopods houses are designed to function off the grid, and can easily be transported anywhere.
