Gorgeous Furniture Made from Recycled Plastic

The design firm Reform Studio from Cairo, Egypt has come up with a brilliant way to upcycle plastic bags. They are turning them into beautiful furniture using Egyptian handlooms and traditional techniques. The aim of the people behind the project is to find ways in which modern design can be used to solve the world’s problems, one of which is certainly the alarming surplus of plastic bags discarded every day. And what’s more, through their project they are keeping alive Egypt’s rapidly disappearing traditional practice of hand weaving. (more…)

Large Vertical Farm to Open in Kentucky

The vertical farm is called FarmedHere, after the company that plans to build it, and it will form one part of the planned 24 acre (9.7-ha) West Louisville FoodPort, which is set to become a large community of food-related businesses in area. University Center Adopts Efficient New Lighting Design

With very little doubt left that it’s our wasteful practices that are the cause of global warming, it’s nice to see some larger scales steps being taken in the right direction. A great example of such a step is the intelligent lighting system installed at the Watt Family Innovation Center at Clemson University in South Carolina. The system uses Philips’ LED and Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology and should provide energy savings of around 70 percent as compared to using conventional lighting. (more…)

A 3D Printed Office Completed in Dubai
