Ellis Residence Has a Lush Green Roof

Seattle has its fair share of LEED Platinum homes, but this is the first LEED Platinum single-family home in the state of Washington outside of Seattle.  The Bainbridge Island home, blending style and sustainability, was designed by Coates Design Architects for owners Ed and JoAnne Ellis, who wanted an exemplary, modern, green home.

H2hotel has a Wavy Living Green Roof

While not as pronounced as the California Academy of Sciences museum, I think it's safe to say that this undulating green roof covering the new h2hotel is just as beautiful.  The hotel, which gets its name from being the sister to Hotel Healdsburg, was designed by David Baker + Partners and is pursuing LEED Gold certification.  It's also a nominee for the People's Choice Award from the Redwood Empire Chapter of the AIA.

Modern Hen Coop with a Green Roof

If you’re thinking about raising chickens, there are a few ways to go about it.  You could build a retro Modern Coop or Quonset Coop.  Or, you could build a boxy coop with a green roof, like this one pictured here and featured in Dwell.  It’s framed with two-by-fours, insulated, sheathed with oriented strand board, covered in reclaimed cedar, ventilated with two upper windows, and topped with native landscaping, according to Miyoko Ohtake.
