Panel House by David Hertz (F2)

Panel House

This home is a three-story modern home in LA designed by David Hertz for Thomas Ennis.  In the place of walls, Hertz's design called for industrial refrigerator panels--it keeps cool when it's warm outside and keeps warm when it's cool outside.  This home is referred to as the 'Panel House,' or according to an article in Wired, the 'Ice Box.'

The Green Building of Macintosh Village (F2)

The Green Building of Macintosh

What you see above is The Green Building by Terry Farrell + Partners in Macintosh Village of Manchester.  This mixed-use building is the result of innovating on an oddly shaped piece of land.  It has a pre-school nursery, doctor's surgery and some commercial space, and 32 apartments.  The roof has solar panels and an integrated wind turbine.  Small wind at its best.

Espace Mobile, Salzburg, Austria (F2)

Espace Mobile

This is the Espace Mobile hailing from Salzburg, Austria.  According to the website, the interior and exterior is fully customizable, with the shell made of spruce wood and aluminum metal sheeting.  Like many pre-fabs, the price doesn't include land, foundation, connection or set-up fees, or transportation.  Nonetheless, it's designed to be affordable, mobile, and environmentally friendly.  I think all that depends on how you customize and specify construction.  See fact sheet.

Gulf Islands Operations Centre - LEED Platinum (F2)

Gulf Islands Operations Centre
Gulf Islands Operations Centre

This is the Gulf Islands Operations Centre designed by Larry McFarland Architects and located in Sidney, British Columbia.  It was one of the first, if not the first, buildings to receive LEED Platinum certification in Canada, which is quite the accomplishment.  The building has an ocean-based geothermal system, photovoltaic panels (20% of power), and various water and energy saving technologies.

WINDPOWER 2007: AWEA Flickr Pool and YouTube Channel

Skystream 3.7
Southwest Windpower

Right now, the world's largest wind energy conference and exhibition, called WINDPOWER 2007, is going on.  For those of you that can't attend, here's a link to the AWEA YouTube Channel and the AWEA Flickr Pool.  Good stuff.  Pictured above is the Skystream 3.7.  I'm a big believer in wind technology, especially small wind technology because it has the potential to power our lives on a renewable basis.  Think about the powerful combo of a plug-in hybrid car + home with solar panels + yard with small wind + thermal energy storage.  Here's what happens.  During the night, you charge your car at home.  Then you drive to work.  At work, you charge your car again with solar/wind power.  The hybrid makes it happen anywhere in the middle.  We need to start mashing up renewable technology in a smart way.  Microgeneration.  Decentralization.  WINDPOWER 2007 is a big part of making this happen.

Rosenlof/Lucas + Modern Landscape Design (F2)

Rolu1

Rolu2

What you see above is the modern landscape design work of Rosenlof/Lucas, at a newly built Hive Modular B-Line home in southern Minneapolis.  According to the Flickr images and captions, Ro-Lu and the new homeowners enjoyed working with Hive.  When the trees are mature, they will enhance the feeling and view for the occupants and provide a little respite from the afternoon sun.  The modern sidewalk is made of flyash concrete and the design minimizes runoff.

A Farm in Cambridgeshire (F2)

Cambridgeshire Wind Farm

Speaking of this wind turbine trifecta in the Cambridgeshire of Manchester, I thought I'd remind everyone that WINDPOWER 2007 Conference & Exhibition is coming up June 3-6, 2007, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.  With +6,000 wind energy professionals, +400 companies' products, and +200 speakers in three days, I understand it will be quite the event.  I'd like to take notes on the small wind stuff, but I'll be studying for the bar exam in my new location.  Enjoy the weekend...

What you see are the modern + green Tony Case Homes in Columbia City (South Seattle).  Pretty good looking, if you ask me.  If you click the picture, you'll enter the flickr pool with these images and see there are three homes right next to each other, a gray, green, and orange one.  Enjoy...

Hearst Tower + The Daily Green (F2)

Hearst Tower

I thought I would share this picture of Hearst Tower, which is a LEED Certified Gold building in NYC.  Hearst Tower is probably one of the first, ostensible steps for Hearst Corporation in going green, but they've also launched a new green website, in beta right now, called The Daily Green.  Next step, the greening of its magazines (not the content, the paper)?
