Sneak Peak: Venice Live/Work House

Venice Live/work

How about kicking out a shout to the newly established blog by EcoSteel?  I was emailing with EcoSteel’s Kelvin Findlay about their new projects and the blog came up.  So I start looking through the first few posts and, of course, this Venice Live/Work home caught my eye.  I mean, how can it not?  Apparently the home is ready to go in California and EcoSteel is bidding out the contractor work at the moment.

Aviator Energy Efficient Live/Work Units Planned for Steamboat Springs

Aviator

I just received an email about an interesting project on the cusp in Steamboat Springs, Colorado called Aviator.  Aviator is a mixed-use, multifamily and storage units facility that’s targeting LEED Gold certification.  Seeking superior energy efficiency for the project, Olson Development retained EcoSteel to provide the structure.  EcoSteel calculates that their company could contribute ~18 points towards overall certification of Aviator based upon energy efficiency (10), heat island effect reduction (1), and recycled, reused, and regional materials use (7).

GreenMobile®, the Anticipated Update!

Greenmobile2

Back in January of this year, I posted an article about the stylish, affordable GreenMobile® design by Mississippi State University Professor Michael Berk.  Since that time, I’ve received countless emails and a few comments (aside: why do readers email rather than comment?) asking when the GreenMobile® would be available for purchase.  So I’ve come to realize that people, including myself, really want to buy a GreenMobile.  I mean, it’s kind of cool.  The demand for affordable, modern living is really quite incredible (see: 100k House, e-House, Make It Right, etc).  But the long and short is, I emailed Professor Berk and he was nice enough to extensively respond via the below email, which I’ve edited slightly for formatting.

First Look at West Coast Green Container Showhouse 2008

SG Blocks 2008 Showhouse - West Coast Green

For the past two years, we’ve been media sponsors for the always excellent West Coast Green conference.  WCG pushes the envelope on innovation and sustainability, and this year will be no different.  Today I received renderings of the West Coast Green Showhouse, aka the SG Blocks 2008 Showhouse, built by SG Blocks and designed by The Lawrence Group.  It’s a 1700 sf container home, but you probably can’t tell just by looking.  Sustainability will be number one, with GreenPoint and LEED certification in the plans.  Plus, it seems that ecofabulous will be doing the interior design work, so the home, you can believe, will be modish, posh, and green.

Prefab Cabin Built by Method Homes

Method Home Cabin

When we first brought news of Method Homes in April, we were pretty excited because they were cruising along with construction at a pretty quick clip.  Their design was mountain modern and the founders, Bryan Abramson and Mark Rylant, were executing on a plan to build this smart green home in three months.
