Blue Sky Homes Yucca Valley Prefab

Yucca-rendering

Update 5/18/09: This Blue Sky Homes prototype is complete!

Just the other day, we mentioned a beautiful green home designed by o2 architecture, but they’ve also been involved with another interesting company, Blue Sky Homes.  Blue Sky Homes was created to be a next generation prefab company — they’ve developed a system to construct homes faster, stronger, greener, cheaper, and easier than standard industry practice.  The Blue Sky Homes Building System involves fabricating the elements of the home in a factory and assembling those pieces on the job site.  And they’re testing this system on a 1,000 square foot prototype home in Yucca Valley right now.

PLACE Houses Prefab Pacific Northwest

Place-Seattle

We've mentioned tons of prefab homes, but PLACE Houses is a new one for us.  This green home is a prefab design by PLACE Houses, a company offering smart, affordable, and green prefab designs to owners in the Pacific Northwest (and soon, the rest of the country).  Of note, the 2,800 square foot home is a far cry from the 5,400 square foot design another architect proposed, reports Metropolitan Home.  And in the end, the northwest modern residence incorporated a number of sustainable features:

Method Homes Intros S-M-L Prefab Series

Small

About a year ago, we first brought you news of Method Homes and their plan to build a prefab cabin in Glacier, Washington.  And they built the inaugural Method Cabin in about three months.  Now, Method Homes, in collaboration with Balance Architects, is officially launching the Balance S-M-L Series of prefab designs with three main models: small, medium, and large.  Of note, these prefab models have been designed to arrive 95% complete within three months of purchase.  The models range in size from 540 to 856 square feet, and in price from $98,000 to $148,000.

Unity House Takes LEED Platinum

Unity House

This exciting new line of prefab houses comes to us from Bensonwood Homes, based out of Walpole, New Hampshire.  Their Unity House, a Unity2 model built for the president of Unity College, has achieved a LEED platinum rating, making it one of a select group of homes around the country to reach such a lofty goal.  And the small design-build company debuts not one, two, or even three, but four stunning models to the sustainable housing market.  Reasonably priced and quickly assembled, all homes in the series are designed to be net-zero energy.  The design aesthetic seems to lean towards the classic single family American home, while the high tech materials and features thrust towards the future of home building.  The list of sustainable features is long to be sure, but here are a few key elements.

Casa 100k Green Prefab Homes [Italy]

100k-night

It looks like the 100k House idea has migrated overseas because a similar prototype just popped up in Italy last year.  Mario Cucinella Architects has conceived Casa 100k, which is a prototype home for Є100,000 that prioritizes three main elements: style, sustainability, and affordability.  It's billed as a low-cost, dream home with zero bills and zero emissions.  And as you can see from available renderings, the method of accomplishing such goals is primarily through prefabrication and passive and active design strategies.

Virginia Passive Solar Modern House Nearing Completion!

Casati-topview

Just recently, we mentioned Copeland Casati in regards to the launch of Green Cabin Kits, but I thought it was high time to take a look at her SIPs home under construction near Appomattox in Central Virginia.  The home is actually a prototype of the Casa Ti house kit designed by architect David Day.  Designed to be off-grid, net-zero energy, and modern, the home has 1200 square feet of space with three bedrooms.
