Artistic and Sustainable Shipping Container Home in California

This modern and striking home/studio was built a few years ago, but deserves a second look. It was created by designer Jennifer Siegal, who was tasked with the job by a client who wanted to transform a former junkyard in downtown Los Angeles into a live-work artists community. To get the job done, Jennifer salvaged most of the building materials on-site, including the containers, which make up this cool home called Seatrain house.

New Luxury P.A.T.H. Houses are Very Energy Efficient

The Prefabricated Accessible Technological Homes (or P.A.T.H.) are high-end, luxury prefab homes, which are capable of producing more energy that they require. These homes were created by French designer and architect Philippe Starck in collaboration with Slovenian prefabricated housing specialist Riko. The two partners are selling these homes under the name “Starck with Riko”.

A Flood Proof House?

Flooding has gotten worse in recent years, and, if the trend continues, new and improved architecture solutions will soon be needed for homes in flood-prone areas. Baca Architects are in the process of designing a unique home, called Formosa and dubbed the “amphibious house,” which is capable of floating on floodwater before being placed back down once the water recedes.

Nashville Soon to Get The First Shipping Container Retail Center

Cambridge Holdings Inc. in collaboration with One City recently announced that they would soon begin the construction of a mixed-use building, which will be built out of recycled shipping containers. This will be the first cargotecture building in Nashville, and the actual construction will be done by the Carter Group.

Are Mega-Buildings the Future of Our Cities?

Cities of the future will almost certainly need to be both larger and much more sustainable than they currently are. Due to this assumption, the logical solution is huge mega-skyscrapers, which are capable of producing their own power and handling their own waste. One such design was recently put forth by Urban Future Organization in partnership with CR-Design in the form of the Cloud Citizen building complex which is to be built in Shenzhen, China. Their idea is actually a whole sprawling complex of interconnected buildings, which includes great spaces and comes with a number of sustainable features.
