Awesome Guesthouse Conversion


Times are hard and they’re not getting better very fast, so a lot of people are forced to find alternate ways of making money. One way is certainly renting out your home or a portion of it, and one of the more creative ways of doing this is certainly this conversion of a laundry boiler room into a guesthouse in San Francisco. The Portugal-based design firm OODA has come up with innovative, unique free standing volumes, which can turn any room into a home, and can be folded down into a box for transport. OODA has recently transformed derelict buildings in the city of Porto into affordable accommodations for tourists and seasonal foreign students, by using these volumes.

IKEA Refugee Shelter is a Big Success

In 2013 the furniture giant IKEA, in collaboration with the United Nations Agency for Refugees (UNHCR) developed the so-called Refugee Housing Unit (RHU), a flat packed shelter for housing refugees, which is much easier to assemble and a lot more durable than other such shelters currently in use. Since then, the shelters have been tested in areas like Iraq and Ethiopia and have been deemed a huge success.
