Chopsticks Recycled Into Beautiful Modern Furniture

Chopsticks have been around for almost 4000 years, but they also present quite an environmental problem. It is estimated that just in China, around 80 billion chopsticks are thrown away every year, with the number much higher if we factor in all the Asian food restaurants around the world. I’ve often wondered, when eating at an Asian restaurant, what happens to the used disposable chopsticks. And so have the founders of the Vancouver, Canada based startup Chopvalue. They went a step further, and founded a project that turns used chopsticks into awesome pieces of modern furniture and home accessories. (more…)

Mobile Home and Hostel Made From a Bus

Converting a disused bus into a house gives a whole new meaning to living in a mobile home and we’ve seen quite a few awesome examples lately. This latest one is not only a home, but also a mobile hostel, which travels around the best skiing and snowboarding spots in Europe. It was built by Valerie Cook and Tim Boffe of Let’s Be Nomads. They will be travelling across Europe in it for the next 3 years, together with their toddler daughter and their dog. (more…)

Quirky Renovation of a Micro Apartment

When it comes to making tiny spaces more livable and comfortable, there have already been many clever solutions developed. But this apartment has some surprises in store. It was designed for photographer Brendan McInerney by Joseph Chiarucci of Fort Design Build, and it features an actual catwalk as a space saving feature. Dangerous? Maybe. But it’s also quite clever.

XL Tiny House Big Enough for a Family

One of the main criticisms of tiny houses stems from their limited use as family homes. But the company Rocky Mountain Tiny Houses of Durango, Colorado aims to change that with their newest offering. All-in-One Home Office and Yoga Studio

When working from home, having a dedicated office space is awesome, and having one that serves more than just a single purpose is even better. The firm Neil Dusheiko Architects from London, UK, recently built this sustainable garden office, which also doubles as a yoga studio and even a playroom for children. This space is used by a psychiatrist who practices from home, and they use it to see patients during the day. The structure is called the Shadow Shed, and they chose this name because it was envisioned as a space with a dark skin, but with light and warmth at its center. Conversion of a Micro Apartment Into a Cozy Home

Turning micro spaces into cozy apartments seems to be the answer to the housing crisis in many cities across the world. With the help of transformer furniture and multipurpose units that’s not very hard to do. The latest such successful transformation was recently completed in Milan, Italy. The apartment in question is located in the city’s historical district Brera, and the architects have successfully turned it into a small, but cozy living space. (more…)
