The international firm Ganti and Associates Design has proposed a skyscraper to be built out of repurposed shipping containers. This skyscraper would be erected in the Dharavi slum in Mumbai, India. While building large structure such as this out of used shipping containers is certainly very sustainable, there is always the question of how to make them structurally sound and how to prevent excessive heat gain to consider.
Apartment space is at an all time premium in urban areas, so living in tiny shoebox apartments has become the norm. Often this means sacrificing comfort, so it’s always nice to see small apartment designs, which take this problem on and create cozy and comfortable living solutions. (more…)
The Russian design studio Zaarchitects have come up with a concept they call “smart masonry” techniques, which would involve using parametric tools and robot arms in the construction of concrete buildings. This method would require the use of less concrete for the construction of more lightweight, precise, efficient and less bulky buildings. (more…)
With the number of refugees displaced by war or natural disasters increasing it’s always nice to see temporary housing solutions, which can offer them safe and more comfortable living conditions, as well as restore some dignity.
