The design firm Designnobis of Turkey has recently come up with a unique concept for a pop-up shelter, which would be easy to transport and assemble. The shelter is called Tentative and has a fiberglass roof and floor with weather-resistant fabric walls that resemble those of a tent. One of the key advantages of their design is the fact that it can be transported very easily due to its super small size while disassembled.

The Tentative shelter measures 13 x 6.5 x 8 feet (4 x 2 x 2.5 m) when assembled, which is enough sleeping room for two adults and two children according to the designers. Apart from the beds, the only other furniture are a few plastic chairs, which makes this one of the more barebones shelters out there.

However, the ease of transport greatly offsets this shortcoming. When assembled, Tentative has a height of 8 feet (2.5 m), but when disassembled, it measures only 1 foot (30 cm) in height. This means that 24 units can be delivered in one go using a single semi-trailer truck.

To erect the shelter, the first step is to open the fiberglass top, which makes up the roof, while the actual bottom of the package acts as the floor. Next, the framework, which is made of aluminum needs to be raised, and the two doors have to be installed properly since they aid in the stability of the shelter. The fabric that makes up the walls is then stretched between the roof and floor. This fabric is made of durable weather resistant textile that consists of thermally insulated perlite. According to the designers, the shelter can be assembled in an hour or so.

The entire shelter would be placed on stilts to raise it off the ground, which coupled with a well insulated floor helps reduce heat loss. Each shelter also features a skylight and window to let in natural light.

Designnobis is currently still working on the prototype, while they also have plans to create a larger model, which will feature a toilet, and a roof top rainwater collection system. They hope to release the shelters later in the year.
