Building homes using 3D printing technology is still a new idea, but one day it could well become one of the top construction solutions. Especially if the technology keeps developing at such a fast pace. The most recent successfully completed 3D printing project is a small concrete castle created by US-based Andrey Rudenko. He built the intricate structure in his backyard by using a large 3D printer that he made himself. His next project is printing a whole house.

Artist Studio Space Made of Shipping Containers

Shipping container architecture seems to be taking over the world, which is only fitting as these disused metal boxes lend themselves perfectly to building homes, cabins or office spaces. In Lisbon, Portugal the Village Underground Lisboa complex is currently being constructed. The shipping container building will be a multi-office space for artists and other creatives, while the architects also incorporated used double-decker buses into the design.

Ethan and his girlfriend Kelsey have recently moved into a tiny home which they built themselves for only $7,000. They built the home in a trailer, which they got for only $1,500, and it is located on an organic farm in Texas. The 100-square-foot home took them about seven months to complete.

A team of researchers at the University of Sheffield in the UK have found a way to make a spray-on solar cell, which has perovskite as the light-absorbing layer. This new cell’s efficiency is only 11 percent, but it can be produced very cheaply, which could be the first step forward in large scale production of affordable solar panels.

The Scottish company Trakke recently unveiled the so-called Jero yurt, which makes for a great little shelter, that can easily become an off-the-grid dwelling, a guesthouse or a cabin.
