The Eco Pod is a new modular home created by the UK-based company Echo. The tiny home measures 96.8 square feet and can lend itself well to a variety of living arrangements. A standalone Eco Pod can be used as a home office, or extra guest bedroom. The design of these units also allows them to be joined together to create an off-the-grid home, which can be as big or as small as the owners require.

A team of scientists is currently raising funds through a crowd funding campaign to develop Air HES (HydroElectric Station), which is basically an airship that can extract clean water and electricity from the clouds. More specifically, it does so by harvesting and condensing water vapor, and uses it to spin up an electric turbine generator to create power. The developers have already built a small prototype to test the device and have done feasibility studies, while the main aim of the funding campaign is scaling up the device to produce economically viable levels of water and power.

Shipping containers lend themselves to many architectural uses, and building office space out of them is perhaps the oldest of them all. The Japanese architectural firm led by Tomokazu Hayakawa recently completed the construction of a two story office built out of two used shipping containers. The structure is called CC4441, a name which nicely encompasses its futuristic and industrial form.

UK-based Hivehaus, led by designer Barry Jackson recently unveiled their first modular home, also called Hivehaus, which is a modular home inspired by the hexagonal shape of the beehive. The basic unit becomes a simple, tiny home, but it can also be expanded on any of its six sides to form a unique and spacious family home.

On the face of it, living in a truck does not sound very comfortable at all. But converting a truck into spacious and above all sustainable home is exactly what fifty-year-old animator Joseph Tayyar from Israel did. And very successfully too. His new home is also almost completely self-sufficient, due to a roof mounted solar power array.

Casa El Tiemblo, or Tiemblo House, got its name from the picaresque region in which it is located, namely, El Tiemblo, Ávila, Spain. It was built using six repurposed shipping containers and was designed by Infiniski and built by James & Mau Architectura. It measures a luxurious 190 square meters (623 square feet).
