Minibox is a Prefab Tiny House by Ideabox

Oregon-based Ideabox, the company behind Aktiv with IKEA Portland, recently shared news of an expanded endeavor called Minibox.  Minibox is actually a series of “minihomes” built to RV and park model codes.  The tiny-house series has designs ranging from a 200 square-foot studio to a 320 square-foot one-bedroom/one-bath cottage.  And you can bet Ideabox will continue to plug all the green stuff inside.  Pricing for the non-wheel version starts at $42,500.

That pricing is similar to what I’ve seen with something like, for example, the Tumbleweed Tiny Houses.

When the “Green” prefab and manufactured home market start to realize that like the average manufactured home manufacturer they do NOT need to make a 100% mark-up on their homes to be successful and that 20% – 30% or heck if you’re being greedy even 50% is enough, perhaps then we shall see more competitive pricing, manufacturers that ACTUALLY stay in business because they will have more sales. Take a lesson from Hallmark Southwest or Cavco, Pacific Homes and other top of the line manufacturers. This discourages people who are making less than $100,000 from buying Eco-friendly homes because they can’t even afford to buy them. It’s about time manufactureres stopped catering to wealthy home buyers, especially if they want to see green home constructions flourish
