The original Mod.Fab installed on the grounds of Taliesin West will live again thanks to a new endeavor between Lindal Cedar Homes and both the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Thus, Mod.Fab will be available anywhere there’s a Lindal dealer, except the plan is also available in an additional exterior finish and in two larger sizes, 680 and 790 square feet.
The Mod.Fab design is made available through the Lindal Architects Collaborative in which architect designs are matched with Lindal’s building system. LAC now has over thirty designs from architects around the country with more added every quarter or so.
The rendering and floor plan above is of the 432-square-foot Mod.Fab with a bedroom, bathroom, galley kitchen, and open living area. Below are renderings for the 680-square-foot and 790-square-foot versions. They’re all sized below 800 square feet to be used as accessory dwelling units, where permitting allows.
Mod.Fabs have two exterior finish options: cement board panels and a new Lindal finish with vertical cedar siding, steel cornerboards and trim elements, and cedar ceiling liner and roof extensions.
To keep costs down, Lindal fixed the exterior elements, but the interiors may be modified on-site. Complete pricing for the small version is expected to be about $75,000 with the larger ones costing upwards from $125,000. Mod.Fabs will be available from Lindal starting July 4, 2012.
