New App Provides Basic Energy Use Data

Blue Line Innovations, maker of the PowerCost Monitor for tracking home energy use, recently introduced a new partnership with the People Power Company which includes a new mobile app called People Power 1.0.  Now, abandoned Hohm and PowerMeter users can switch over to People Power 1.0 for real-time electricity data, real-time pricing, budgeting, gaming, social interaction, and other information.

Botanist Minimal Going to Early Backers

Earlier this year, we mentioned the All Wood Botanist Bench, which is made with 12 sheets of sustainably harvested poplar and high-grade engineered veneers.  Botanist Minimal weighs 45 pounds, measures 60″L x 18″D x 18″W, and has walnut or rift oak finishes, making it perfect for modernists with a flare for eco-friendly furniture.  If you’re in this group, the modern piece is being shipped upon funding to early backers via Kickstarter for $299, according to its designer Dario Antonioni.  Check it out.

This month Warmboard announced a new radiant heating panel, Warmboard-R, that is thinner than its other panel, making it ideal for remodels and renovations.  Warmboard-R is 13/16″ thick (as compared to 1-1/8″ for the standard version) and provides the same radiant heat performance.

Viola Park, a company of Henrybuilt, has been growing this year with new offerings and a showroom in Los Angeles.  The company makes eco-friendly, modular kitchens, sold directly to consumers, with a full system of cabinets, pulls, drawer inserts, work surfaces, backsplashes, shelving systems, and integrated lighting.

EPA, DOE Launch “Most Efficient” Program

The EPA and Department of Energy today announced the “Most Efficient” initiative for products recognized as the most energy-efficient in their categories among those that have received the Energy Star label.  The Most Efficient designation will attach to about the top 5% of products in these categories: clothes washers, heating and cooling equipment, televisions, and refrigerator-freezers.
