Green Showhouse Planned in Missouri

Hufft Projects and Make Studios just announced this contemporary green showhouse in planning for the Roanoke neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri.  The house was designed to standout and blend in at the same time.  Cantilevered overhangs and clean lines captivate, while brick and ornamental iron work match elements of other homes in the area.

The Showhouse will be Energy Star and airPLUS rated.  A geothermal heating and cooling system is projected to provide a 50% efficiency gain over a typical system.

Built on a narrow lot, expected green elements include a rainwater collection system, 2 kW solar array, low- and no-VOC paints and finishes, double-pane windows (at a minimum), and materials that are local, reclaimed, recycled, or some combination of all three.

Hufft Projects will complete all design and contracting services.  Its brother company, Make Studios, will complete all of the interior finishes, furniture, cabinetry, and metal work.

does anyone know how this “showhouse” thing works?

do the designers/builders own the property?
who gets it after the showing is over? is it sold?

It will be owned individually by the principals of Hufft as a primary residence.

any thoughts as to how much less it would be to go passivhaus w/ minimal heating/cooling than a geothermal system? especially w/ the PV pushing it significantly closer to net zero…
