In response to a design challenge issued by the USGBC, WATG and IDEO created "Haptik," a sustainable hotel suite that blends sustainability and luxury in a high-tech environment. The suite, named after a Greek term for experiencing interactions based on touch, won the challenge and was built as a model at HD Expo 2010 last month. Courtesy of WATG, take a look inside:
Haptik features an all-off room switch, lighting that is keyed to passive infrared sensors, a Trombe wall in the shower that captures solar heat, a gray water irrigation system that channels water to outdoor gardens and landscaping, FSC certified wood products, zero-VOC paints, LED lighting, and massive NanaWall.
The hospitality suite is also perfectly sized and includes a good portion of deck relaxation space to enjoy the greenery and take in a little fresh air.
Guests have the opportunity to customize lighting and temperature by phone prior to arrival. Upon arrival, the hotel provides Haptik guests with a smart room key that doubles as a bus and train pass, minimizing the need for rental transportation while away.
