In the high-end home market, some buyers think buying a green property entails a lot of sacrifice and loss of amenities, but maybe this development in Santa Monica can change some of that.  Located minutes from Montana Avenue, 939 Townhomes includes eight luxury green town homes that range in size from 1,853 to 3,009 square feet and in price from about $1,385,000 to $2,229,000.

These homes are estimated to be about 50% more efficient than standard new construction.  They get there, in part, with Energy Star appliances, hydronic heating, on-demand water heating, fully insulated interior and exterior walls, and smart systems.

939 Townhomes also require a small water investment for landscaping with drip irrigation and drought tolerant landscaping reducing water consumption by about 75% compared to traditional landscaping.

The developer, Ron Gronen of EGC Luxury Homes, says the community is unique in that it's the first LEED certified townhouse development in Santa Monica, according to a press release.

Additionally, Gronen believes the development proves that "luxury and environmental responsibility are not mutually exclusive, they can co-exist."  What do you think?
